In actual operation, the grease discharges the lubricating oil under mechanical stress, just like a sponge pushes out water. After eliminating the mechanical pressure, the grease can also restore part of the discharged lubricating oil into a thickener.
Lubricating grease is composed of base oil thickener additives. The main component is base oil (mineral oil or synthetic oil). The thickener acts like a sponge. It is composed of fiber structure and stores base oil and additives. In order for the sponge to be squeezed out of water, even if the "sponge" of the grease is pressed, the base oil will precipitate, but the main method of "pressing the grease" is mechanical compression and high temperature.
It can be seen that the separation of grease is normal. If the grease does not have the ability to drain oil, it cannot be lubricated. Lubrication is the base oil, and the thickener has almost no lubricating effect. The oil content of the grease is related to the content of the thickener. From the composition of the grease, it can be seen that the content of the thickener in the grease is different. It is associated with a sponge. The higher the content of the thickener, the more difficult it is for the base oil to precipitate , The less oil. Is the more thickener contained in the grease, the better? of course not. Of course, if there is too much thickener, the base oil will be firmly absorbed. Do not remove the grease from the base oil. How to lubricate the thickening process of grease needs to find this compromise point.
It can be seen from the structure of the grease that the oil that precipitates the grease is a necessary process to achieve the lubricating effect in its application. However, due to temperature changes and mechanical vibrations (static oil precipitation and oil penetration), grease may experience oil precipitation during storage. In the actual process, these stresses are extremely weak compared to mechanical stresses, but a small amount of lubricating oil may be precipitated. Over time, the precipitated lubricating oil gradually forms an oil layer.
So we can draw the conclusion: a small amount of precipitated lubricant has no effect on the use of grease.
