Nowadays, lubricants are used in all walks of life and deeply integrated into our lives. Does the lubricant you use turn black during work? Do you know the reason? Next, Baoxing Lubricants will explain to you why lubricants turn black?

Lubricating grease is a complex mixture of base oil and additives. The reasons for its blackening can be roughly summarized as follows:

1.Grease oxidation: Under high temperature and metal catalysis, oxygen in the air reacts with grease to generate alcohol, aldehyde, ketone, acid and some oxygen-containing insoluble substances, causing the grease to gradually turn black during use.

2.Decomposition: Under high temperature conditions, long-chain hydrocarbons will decompose into small molecular hydrocarbons and gases, such as alkanes, alkenes, etc. These decomposition products may cause the oil to turn black.

3.Contamination: Lubricating grease will come into contact with dust and other contaminants, causing the lubricating grease to become contaminated and turn black.

4. Grease quality: The blackening of grease may be due to the grease’s own formula, the incompatibility of additives with the working environment of the oil-using device, as well as the grease’s usage time and usage environment.
