Common testing standards for the extreme pressure of lubricants include Timken EP Test, including ASTM D2782 (lubricating oil) and ASTM D2509 (lubricating grease). There is also Four-Ball EP Test, including ASTM D2783 (lubricating oil) and ASTM D2596 (lubricating grease). From the test standards, we can see that there is a difference between the extreme pressure and anti-wear properties of lubricating oils. The extreme pressure properties of lubricating oils with good anti-wear properties are not necessarily good.
